Having experience with a number of hosting companies over the years, I’ve learned a thing or two. Being reliable is one, and being affordable is two. You typically either have the choice of getting a Windows or a Unix hosting package. If your website relies on .NET, ASP, or or Microsoft Access, then you should choose a Windows Host. If it doesn’t, then there is no need to venture down that rabbit hole. I work primarily on websites that run Unix Webhosts, as does 66% of the web, so that is what I would recommend. Purchasing Hosting is usually the last step of my Custom Website Design Process, as I build sites on my computer and link them to my site to show clients the work in progress.
My personal favorite Webhosting company is DreamHost. I’ve been with them for years and have had very few issues with their rock-solid service. If you are interested in a purchasing a hosting plan through Dreamhost, you can use the Coupon Code PHILGEAR to save you on the cost of a domain name for a year!
